Yeah … it was, as I say, special. There were about 8 of us in 2 seperate boats and we went right to the face of the glacier as the ice was breaking off in massive pieces. Amazing.
Yes. The glaciers are receding at an alarming rate (though a very small percentage are actually growing). If you look at a map at the exact spot where I took this photo it is marked as part of the land mass. I’m not talking about an old map. Your concern is entirely justified.
As for getting a lot of breaks …. No. I don’t. But I have almost zero responsibility on this trip – which is great.

Fortunately we still had a bigger boat to come back too. It would have been a bit uncomfortable after the sun went down otherwise.

Yes. I don’t like to use the word ‘awesome’ too often, because it gets such a lot of use already. But this experience goes close to qualifying.
